Pattaya, 4 March, 2010 [PDN]: responding to a tip off, a police team, dispatched by Pattaya Police Investigator, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tharathep, raided two rooms in the Freema Mansion, Soi Rungland, and apprehended a boisterous group of teenagers, aged from 14 to18-years-old, as well as a 26-year-old, who the police suspected were high on drugs. The 8 boys and 3 girls, none of whom had ID cards, were tested and found positive for drugs.

At the police station, where they were subsequently taken, one of the group, Joy [14] from Sukhothai, when questioned, informed police that she and most of her friends were problem teenagers who had run away from their homes a year previously to live and work in Pattaya. They apparently obtained cash from working as prostitutes or street venders to rent two shared rooms and also to buy methamphetamines (yah ba) for their combined use.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Tuphanit told reporters that of those apprehended, the ones with drug problems will undergo rehabilitation treatment. The respective backgrounds of the whole group will be investigated and their parents contacted so those underage can be sent home. He also warned that any re-offending by any of the group will result in their arrest and prosecution.
