Teenage Runaways Caught in Drug Party

Share
In their ongoing investigations into problem runaway teenagers coming to Pattaya and working illegally, police discovered a group of 11 having a drug party in shared rented rooms and apprehended them.

Pattaya, 4 March, 2010 [PDN]: responding to a tip off, a police team, dispatched by Pattaya Police Investigator, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tharathep, raided two rooms in the Freema Mansion, Soi Rungland, and apprehended a boisterous group of teenagers, aged from 14 to18-years-old, as well as a 26-year-old, who the police suspected were high on drugs. The 8 boys and 3 girls, none of whom had ID cards, were tested and found positive for drugs.

At the police station, where they were subsequently taken, one of the group, Joy [14] from Sukhothai, when questioned, informed police that she and most of her friends were problem teenagers who had run away from their homes a year previously to live and work in Pattaya. They apparently obtained cash from working as prostitutes or street venders to rent two shared rooms and also to buy methamphetamines (yah ba) for their combined use.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Tuphanit told reporters that of those apprehended, the ones with drug problems will undergo rehabilitation treatment. The respective backgrounds of the whole group will be investigated and their parents contacted so those underage can be sent home. He also warned that any re-offending by any of the group will result in their arrest and prosecution.

Hugh: You have missed the point with your observation. I think what is much more important is the fact these kids are only the tip of the iceberg and it is an indication of the lack of social services with in the Thai society.
Certain types of vitamins can also change the colour of the urine. I am sure the girls will remember to do just as you say. Really do you think they care? I don't, but the Thai authorities should.

Just a perfunctorily glance at the urine samples suggests to me that a couple of these youngsters were dehydrated. Ideally fresh urine should be the colour of straw. The girls particularly should remember to drink adequate amounts of water throughout the day.
