Raging Fire Completely Destroys Family Home in Pattaya

Share
Early on Wednesday morning a raging fire completely destroyed a 2-storey family home in Pattaya. Fire crews believe that the fire may have started from an electrical fault in an old refrigerator that was on the ground floor of the building.

Pattaya 3rd March 2010 [PDN] At approximately 1.40 am Police Lieutenant Colonel Preecha Sumrit, Pattaya Police Investigator was informed of a house fire at 279/24  Soi. Naklua 27-29, Soi Roy Lung, Naklua, Banglamung. The Police, along with Pattaya Relief Officers and 5 fire engines rushed to the scene to investigate the incident.

A two storey house constructed of cement and wood was found to be well alight by the time they arrived with the fire raging through both floors. It took firemen one hour to douse the flames, leaving the property and its contents completely destroyed.  The value of the damage to the property and its contents was estimated to be approximately one million Baht.

Mr. Niyom Boonying [62] the landlord, told police that before the incident occurred, he went to open the restaurant situated across the road from the house, where his daughter [30] and grand children of four and six years old were sleeping along with one other relative on the second floor.

During the time Mr. Booying was sleeping, his daughter phoned to inform him of the fire which had started on the first floor of the house.  It was discovered that a spark from an old beverage fridge had started the fire which had apparently been faulty.  Mr. Boonying rushed around, making sure everyone had vacated the building once the emergency services had been informed. Fortunately no one was injured and the police filed the evidence presuming the fire was caused through a fault from the fridge, which resulted in the property being totally destroyed.

I feel very badly for the residents and the owner of the premise, but lets do a little investigating here. Perhaps the restaurant was failing and cash was needed if any insurance was held on the residence. No mention of gold or money being lost in the fire. Must have rescued that after waking all the family first. hmmmm???

They say the fire started in an old beverage dispenser on the ground floor. Could that be the coke cooler pictured in the first photo? If so, then why is it and all the stuff around it not damaged to any great extent. I would not like to put too much into what the fire investigator says. Especially when it is a policeman. What the hell does he know about fires etc, unless he sets them? 5 fire trucks and all the kings men couldn't put humpty out? God, don't forget to have lots of fire insurance when living in Pattaya. This situation and fire stinks, I think further investigation is required. They were pretty quick to assume the cause and yet the cause appears to be somewhat unscathed.

TIT.

PDN: I am assuming the cooler in the first photo is the culprit according to your aticle, but since you don't caption your photos, I can only guess as to what where and when etc etc... Shape up boys............. Lets do some better reporting.

Sorry to read this. There is nothing more upsetting than seeing you home go up in flames, destroying many of those special and sentimental possessions.

Buildings can be replaced - memories cant.

Sorry to hear of your loss...hope this is of some help. When it comes to our property, what do we expect in case of loss (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, fire, etc.)? The disaster itself is news. What happens after the dust settles is the story: the aftermath shock.

Here's something disaster workers, authorities and the public should know. Insurance policyholders, and more importantly disaster survivors, need to be informed of access to equality--basic rights and information. The internet reaches far more people than anyone would have ever imagined, though difficult to gather those willing to pause, to inspect, to further...to think on their own. And yet, much is available gratis! It just takes looking: www.disasterprepared.net/info.html

If any one thinks concrete buildings cannot burn, just look at the photos. This house will need to be knocked down and rebuilt as concrete and brick cannot take extensive amount of heat.
