Pattaya Police Involved in 200 Strong Anti-Terror Force

Share
Region 2 police, encompassing the entire eastern seaboard, have organised a 200 officer strong anti-terror group. The forces creation has stemmed from the recent violence which has been seen in Bangkok including, bombings along with grenade and rocket attacks.

Pattaya, the 28th of February 2010 [PDN]: Deputy Police Commisioner of Region 2 Major Suweera Songmetta addressed over 200 police officers and volunteers along with representatives from the Tourist Police and Civil Protection Department, at Pattaya Police Station on Sunday. The gathering was organised to encourage local law enforcement agencies and police to concentrate their focus on preventing acts of terror and sabotage following the recent Thaksin asset seizure court case.

Maj. Songmetta referenced the recent bomb threats at the Supreme Court and Ministry for Education and the 4 bombing attacks of Bangkok Bank branches over the weekend as motivation for the Royal Thai Police Force to crackdown on preventing these acts of terror and sabotage. Further stating that; such acts will ultimately only damage Thailand’s reputation in the international community as a safe tourism destination. It is expected that further acts of sabotage and terror will be attempted over the next few weeks in conjunction with various planned rallies and demonstrations by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), who have released their intentions to attempt to peacefully overthrow the current government in a week long protest in March.

The announcement was made in Pattaya due to the cities tourism significance on the Eastern Seaboard. The National Police Bureau announced that they wish to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all visiting tourists by increasing the security presence in the city acting as a deterrent to any potential politically motivated attacks.

I hope the policemen themselves are safe as well as the general public. Pattaya is a beautiful place and is peaceful and happy for people to visit.

Hopefully there will be no problems and everything will be relaxed.

Only thing these comedians respond to is money and the opportunity of extorting it.
Expect to see lots of people fitted up on "anti-terror" charges anytime soon.

That is nice to read about and a very good idea. But let us not forget that they will primarily be a response team not necessarily a preventitive team. So any terrorist threats will have already happened when these guys go into action. Meaning tourists and locals have already been injured or killed. Also, I hope they do not employ any of the expat. volunteers. This would be a mistake. What they will be dealing with is Thailand internal problems and internationals should not be involved.
I wonder who the guy is in the civies standing so errect? Must be a vlounteer trying to get on the regular force. You see them in all sorts around the world.

Later and hope it all works out for you..
