An 18-wheeler container truck has collided with the rear end of a coach carrying 50 school children to Pathumthani. The accident occurred on the Bypass Road Number 7 as the coach was heading towards Chon-Buri.

Laem Chabang, the 25th of February 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 10:30am on Thursday, police Colonel Praphan Wangkhaorm (Laem Chabang Police Investigator) was notified that an accident had occurred on the Bypass Road involving a heavy vehicle and school bus. A team of police and the Sawang Pratheep Foundation rescue officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate and assist.

At the scene rescue officers immediately attended to the injured school children, with 8 of the 50 kids having to be transported to the Somdejphraborom Rachathawee Hospital for further treatment. The coach, carrying 50 children from the Suankulab Chon-Buri School was parked on the side of the road with severe damage evident to the rear of the vehicle. The white Isuzu 18-wheeler container truck had stopped several meters behind the coach with a smashed windscreen and damage to the front cab.

Twenty students travelling on the coach were injured in the accident, with 8 needing further treatment at the hospital for their injuries. The remaining students who, fortunately, remained uninjured were transported back to school.

A student (name withheld) revealed that the Suankulab Chon-Buri School had organised for 250 students to travel to Pathumthani on an excursion. They had been travelling in a convoy of 5 coaches. The boy revealed that as their coach had been travelling along the Bypass Road the 18-wheeler approached them at high speed before slamming into the rear of the bus.

Mr. Noppadol Wiphasawat [30] the driver of the 18-wheeler has been arrested by police, who will now proceed with an investigation to determine the cause of this unfortunate accident.

The only thing that failed is the primitive simian mind of the pond-life driving an 18-wheel truck, convinced that the size of his lorry gives him right of way. Twit.

I live here and drive every day on these roads. So i can understand why they have arrested the driver of the truck. No proper driver training,no real idea of the highway code.Just turn up trive a truck round a silly little track, and there you go,pick up your license. They overtake on the inside, outside, and the middle over here.If your not going to teach these people how to drive properly, these things will continue to happen every day.You have to drive here to believe the unbelievable.

Could it not be that the brakes may have failed? What ever has happened to innocent till proven guilty? I know this is Thailand, but we are not Thai so why accuse the man before anything is proven. Think how you would feel if it happened to you and every one condemed you at the point of the incident.

I can only assume the truck driver injured his legs in the collision which accounts for him not running away, that or he was too drunk to walk.
