Pattaya 21st February 2010 [PDN] During the early hours of this morning, police were notified of yet another suicide after receiving a report that a Russian National had leapt of the 16th floor of the Ambassador Hotel after only ten days into his stay here in Pattaya.
Na Jomtien Police investigator Police Colonel Sompol Nakkumpun and the Sawang Rojanatham Satan Rescue team responding to the report of a suicide, arrived at the scene at 5.30 am to discover the body of Mr. Denis Zavdman (32) from Russia wearing only a pair of black sports pants lying on the balcony of the 6th storey of the 18 storey Ocean Wing building.

He suffered severe injuries with an open wound to his head where it had been crushed. Police then went to up his room on the 16th floor, room no. 1661. The condition of his room did not present any signs of foul play with every thing seemingly in order.
Three hotel staff told police that Mr. Zavdman had checked into his room alone ten days before. He went out every night into Pattaya. On the day prior to the incident, he had stayed in his room all day. Hotel staff knocked on his door to check, but there was no answer. They then opened the door to the room with a spare key and looked about. On looking over the balcony they found him lying on the balcony of a room on the 6th floor.
Police assume that Mr. Zavdman must have been very stressed to have decided to commit suicide by throwing himself over the balcony. After inspection of the area, the police do not suspect murder, however his body has been sent for autopsy in order to clarify matters and look for any chemical residue.
The Russian Embassy will be informed accordingly.

To Nick:
It was as you said. But how come the security of the hotel was involved?
I lived on the 16th floor, my room was absolutely nearby. I saw this person many times, met with him in the lift, but didn’t think that he is Russian, he spoke English very well.
On the 19th February, we have woken up about 5 in the morning from strong shout in a corridor. There was a noise of fight, voice in English, blows, then simply noise and suddenly all has abated. I have looked in a crack, but it was badly visible. Young men from the reception have come, asked all to return to the rooms and to close the doors. Have told, that there was a drunk fight, but now all is good. Then it became silent. But in some minutes we have heard noise again. 3 persons opened a door in number opposite to the left of me. They have entered, but left very quickly. Then parlourmaids with the complete set for cleaning have come. We have decided that the tourist has left this room late at night, we have met him the day before with packages of gifts. In the morning new tourists have arrived . They were in room long time, have left a lot of dust. Then has come the police. They have told that the tourist from this room has committed suicide, was threw out from a window. But we are assured that he was killed by local guys.
Owners of hotel are afraid of consequences. It was the beautiful and pleasant person, it is unlikely that he was in depression.
We regret much , but in hotel have told us, that we shouldn’t speak with police, as our testimony can affect for receiving the visa further. We didn’t speak about what any more, we couldn’t help this person, still we were afraid that his murderers can find us. But now we have come back home, and friend of mine has shown me this article and I have decided to write!

Pattaya is no different than Las Vegas in the States. Some people come here for 1 last fling and do not plan on going home. Regrettable but predictable for a town such as this.
You say this every time. Do you work for the Tourist board or Police ?
It's far removed from las vegas. Most Las vegas suicides involve heavy financial loss .
Please point me to the nearest large casino in Pattaya.
People are being murdered and folks like you attempting to cover it up are just helping them get away with it.
I hope they renew his Pattaya Flying Club membership next year!
