Pattaya Wednesday17th February [PDN]: – These Chinese New Year celebrations in Pattaya proved to be the most spectacular ever, due to Pattaya City Hall’s carefully planned schedule, beginning with a parade that started in Walking Street and ended near the Bali Hai Pier at south Pattaya.
For the first time, there were three entertainment troupes of around thirty performers contracted from all over China (including one from Tibet), to perform over the three days. The first performance was on the afternoon of 14th February in front of the Central Festival complex on South Pattaya’s Beach Road, which also gave everyone a chance to do some Chinese New Year shopping.
The Bali Hai Pier was the next chosen venue on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th February, as the stage is one of the few that is large enough to hold such an event, and also has ample spectator space. Visitors turned up from the Chonburi Provincial region, plus Bangkok and other parts of Thailand, with a big influx also coming from Korea.
During this 10-day celebration, people flocked from mainland China and to join Pattaya residents in these New Year celebrations. Many Chinese settled here in Thailand in ancient times, so they still have links to their ancestry back in China. Following this philosophy of increased entertainment there is little doubt that future Pattaya Chinese New Year celebrations will be firmly established as a leading event on the Kingdom’s calendar of events.
