Bangkok, the 10th of February 2010 [PDN]: Suvarnabhumi Airport Customs Officials have detained Mr. Noroozi Mojtaba [34] who had flown in from the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Dubai on Wednesday. Mr. Mojtaba was in possession of close to 3kg worth of the high addictive and illegal drug ‘Ice’ or ‘Ya-Ice’ as it is known in Thailand.

Customs checks on Mr. Mojtaba raised suspicion, with him claiming to be a tailor from Dubai, flying into the Kingdom to buy cloth. He appeared nervous and subsequent checks of his baggage revealed a hidden compartment where the drugs were found inside. Mr. Mojtaba explained to customs officers that a friend had asked him to smuggle the drugs into Thailand and drop them in the Pratunam area of Bangkok. He further stated that he was to be paid nothing in exchange for the drugs.
Authorities were reluctant to believe Mr. Mojtaba’s story, due to the massive quantity of the drug that he was carrying. It is estimated that the value of the Ice on the street would equate to approximately 10 million baht. Mr. Mojtaba has now been sent to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau who will further interrogate him in an attempt to uncover other members of the smuggling gang.
Since October of 2009 the Customs Department at Suvarnabhumi has impounded over 52 million baht worth of illegal drugs, in 15 separate cases.
