Around 60,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in the US each year and according to a report from Who magazine, there are about 48,000 deaths worldwide that are melanoma related.

Changes to the moles as in shape and colour may be early signs of melanoma. Any itching, ulceration or bleeding of the mole requires immediate attention. Symptoms may be loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. Any slow healing lesions should be watched closely as this also may be a sign of melanoma.
Melanomas can only be diagnosed after they become visible on the skin, but in the future physicians are hoping to be able to detect melanomas based on the patient’s genotype.

It is recommended to learn what the different moles look like to be able to distinguish between what may or may not be cancerous and to be aware of the changes, ie shape, size and colour, and to seek advice.
The treatment includes surgical removal of the tumor, followed by chemo and immunotherapy or radio therapy. If you have any moles which look a bit worrying, then go and have them checked out by a Doctor or the hospital.
