Pattaya, the 9th of February 2010 [PDN]: Defending champion Zvonareva won almost 60% of the points whilst attaining an impressive 5 service breaks out of 8 receiving games. Russian compatriot Ksenia Pervak was no match as the champ cruised through the tie 6-3, 6-2. Zvonareva will now face Italian Alberta Brianti in the second round after she defeated Sacha Jones in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Other matches on the second day of play involving seeded players included; Kazakhstani 4th seed Yaroslava Shvedova steam rolled her opponent Ayumi Morita 6-2, 6-4 and German Julia Goerges who didn’t drop a service game in her 6-4, 6-4 demolition of Anna Gerasimou.
Unseeded match-ups from Tuesdays play included local favorite, Tamarine Tanasugarn who demolished her opponent Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour. Taipei’s Kai-Chen Chang claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Varatchava Wongteanchai and Kazak Sesil Karatantcheva beat Suchanun Viratprasert 6-1, 7-5. Finally an entertaining match-up between Russian Ekaterina Bychkova and Nudnida Luangnam saw the Russian come away with the win through a third set tie breaker 6-7 [4-7], 6-1, 7-6 [7-3].
