Pattaya, - the 2nd of February 2010 [PDN]: – The Saturday opening of the Pattaya North Star Library’s book festival was its fifth annual second hand promotion. This event started with some very keen buying selling & exchanging of used books, followed by refreshments, and at 1.30 pm a discussion took place to help readers & writers in both Thai & English. Folk songs from the “Mahathai School Band” wound up what was a very successful day, and the final day on Sunday followed a similar pattern with an afternoon theatrical show. The five young actors from Srirakarinwirut University enacted a book reading, which held the young children spellbound.
Two of these actors were university students Khun Mui and Khun On from Bangkok, who stated that they had been at university for 4-years studying children’s literature & philosophy. They have been acting for 11-years.and performs free for schools etc, although often they have some of their expenses donated.
On this occasion, they put on a show, acting out the story of a book in order to help children understand the value of reading books. Pattaya’s North Star Library is located on Sukhumvit Road between Central Pattaya & North Pattaya, close to the “Redemptorist Centre” (Mahathai School), and they now have a separate French library with hundreds of books entirely in the French language. This library was formerly on south Pattaya’s Walking Street, but now has been located to the much better venue of Pattaya’s unique North Star Library.
