Pattaya, the 27th of January 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 6:30am, police Lieutenant Colonel Phatsa Detphakkul (Pattaya Police Investigator) received a report that a foreign man had been found dead at the Kimhan Apartment & Mansion at 570/19, Soi Roy Lung, Naklua. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation went to the scene to investigate.

At the scene, an 8-storey block of apartments, police discovered the body of Mr. Gunter Kurt Awirner [71] a German national. Mr. Awirner was laying face-up on the ground in a pair of red underwear. As a result of the fall he had suffered a severely fractured skull as well as broken arms and legs.
An investigation with the local residents and staff from the apartment complex revealed that Mr. Awirner had been living in room 806, on the top floor of the building. Mr. Awirner’s balcony was directly above the point at which he had died and is presumed to be the location from which he fell from.

Police assume that Mr. Awirner had willingly taken his own life by jumping from his 8th storey balcony. Personal issues or stress resultant from a congenital disease is suspected to have been the reason behind the suicide, however; an autopsy will be performed and the German embassy informed of his passing.
