Bangkok, the 21st of January 2010 [PDN]: Thai Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Kanlaya Sophonphanit disclosed that the a joint venture between the government and private sector will be setup, with the aim of developing what has been announced as a “science city” at a cost of approximately 5 billion baht (US$151.7 million).
The new city will be constructed at the Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in the Eastern Thai province of Chon-Buri. The city is due to be the countries hub for science and technological development, research and education.
An advisor will shortly be appointed by the science and technology ministry, who will help make a draft proposal on federal policies and suitable industries for inclusion in the development. The draft proposal is expected to be completed by May this year. Already, plans have been made to commence construction on the cities infrastructure and base facilities, with progress to be reported back to the ministry every three months from the commencement of development.
