Pattaya. the 18th of January 2010 [PDN]: Down at South Pattaya in Soi Pattayaland-1, the three business partners at Lewinski’s Hotel, Restaurant & Golfing Bar are Peter Henshaw, John Elfick and Colin Davis, whose combined experience has given rise to a pub that really looks after every golfer who visits. In 1978 Peter came for a holiday and firmly made up his mind that he wanted to retire in Thailand, so he eventually purchased Lewinski’s Hotel, Restaurant & Golfing Bar. He took over the administration of the “Lewinski’s Golfing Association” that had originally been founded by Steve Mascari and Steve Donovan and Lewinski’s has always been regarded as the “golfer’s club house.”
A golfer can arrive from overseas, write his name on the daily schedule board, and be sure of getting in a game of golf the next morning. This is because Lewinski’s have two buses that ferry players daily, to and from the golf courses, after which they can relax with fellow golfers in Lewinski’s Restaurant & Golfing Bar. Here they can enjoy a glass of their favorite beer or a “Guinness” and even order a tasty Irish, International or Thai style meal, all in air conditioned comfort, in an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie. On Wednesday & Saturday nights, Lewinski’s delicious buffet for 250 baht, would have to rate as one of the best in Pattaya, if you want a high quality dinner.
Golfing matches are played at different golf courses on different days, with the Sunday matches usually categories of players. Each day the golfers contribute thirty baht each into a pooled prize fund, which is very aptly called a “Snowball” and if your number is drawn out you win the jackpot. However, if a golfer is not present, this “Snowball” fund accumulates onto the next match, and recently one lucky golfing enthusiast walked away with 23,000 baht.
On the second Sunday of every month there is a “monthly medal” match plus the Captain’s prize,” with trophies to be won, so this is always popular for the golfers,
because with all of the different gradings, everyone has a chance to win something. Recently in fact, 76-year old Mike Craigshead went home with two trophies in one night, and his great physical shape must surely be attributed to the regular golf matches that he plays.
Every week there are a large number of visitors from countries as diverse as America, England, Europe, Australia, South East Asia & the Middle East, so visitors to Lewinski’s are never lonely. When local golfing clubs are not too busy, they organize inter-club tournaments, and as big events go, the 4-day Lewinski Classic will be held in late February. (For further information contact Miss Namwan on mobile phone 087.828.0973).
The golfers at Lewinski’s are never bored, and as Peter stated; – “Pattaya has too much to offer and is showing visitor growth in spite of a world-wide recession; – It ticks all of the popularity boxes for me.”
