Following the recent tragic death of a Russian tourist who was hit be a speedboat off the coast of Koh Larn, city officials have once again met at Pattaya City Hall in order to discuss the issue of maritime safety in Pattaya.

As recently as Friday the 8th of January a Maritime safety meeting was held at the Bali Hai Pier, with Thailand’s Transport Minister in attendance. Regrettably only 3 days later another tragic avoidable death occurred in the regions troubled waters.

Pattaya City Mayor Ittiphol Khunpluem has requested that the local government prepare a budget to be allocated for maritime safety in the region. In addition, a report has been presented to the Pattaya City Hall administrators in regards to maritime safety, the report will be presented to congress for approval at their next meeting. In relation to the recent tragedy, Pattaya City Hall have announced that they are in cooperation with the Pattaya Assist Tourist Fund, who have been providing help to the victims’ family in their time of need.

Deputy Mayor Ekasing also stated that the operators of the various boating companies in the Pattaya area will be instructed to warn tourists of the dangers associated with swimming and diving in the heavily trafficked area. In conclusion, Mr. Ekasing has guaranteed clear action on maritime safety measures will be in place as soon as possible, to avoid any further tragic accidents and damage to the tourism industry of the region.

Nothing has been raised. Only the show. My brother was killed in HARTIEN boat (big boat company with too many boats) because everything they did was wrong. ( no licence for both captain and boat, never checked as it was very old boat, in the sea in bad weather with not enough life jackets. Even though the company is very rich they did not pay to send my brother's body back to his little son. Still, company do not need to follow regulations and there is no government official check their boats!!! I dont know why !!! I will believe the city hall if they check and forbid HARTIEN boats. They will do that ??? Of course NO...
