Pattaya, the 10th of January 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:00am on Sunday police Lieutenant Piitichon Therdkietkul, (Sattahip Police Investigator), received a report stating a serious accident involving a pickup had occurred at the 175km marker on Sukhumvit Road, Sattahip. Lt. Therdkietkul along with a team of police and rescue officers from the Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation went to the scene to investigate.
At the scene police discovered the severely damaged remains of a blue Isuzu D-Max pickup, the wreckage was sitting on the traffic island with smoke emanating from the bonnet. The four passengers that were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, including the driver Mr. Charin Thuathorng [21] had remarkably suffered only minor injuries. After a brief police investigation all the victims were taken to the Queen Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip.

A search of the scene revealed that the driver had obviously lost control of the vehicle, crashing through two street lights and several protective barriers before coming to a stop in the middle of the traffic island. Police interrogated the driver, Mr. Thuathorng, who explained that he had been on the way home after having had a few drinks at the Baan Tao Than Market in Sattahip with his three friends. He stated that, whilst driving along the Sukhumvit Road he had fallen asleep at the wheel causing the vehicle to veer off the tarmac and crash into the traffic island.
Officers arrested Mr. Thuathorng and took him down to the Sattahip Police Station where he was charged with negligent driving and damaging public property.
