Pattaya, the 8th of January 2010 [PDN]: The increase in tourists travelling from the Bali Hai Pier to the Island of Koh Larn has prompted the Thai Minister for Transportation Mr. Sophon Saram to visit the region – in light of the recent boating accidents – to give a talk on of “Marine, Air and Land Transportation Safety Measures,” which will be a focus for Thailand in 2010.
Pattaya City Council Member and President of the Pattaya Boat Tourism Association, Mr. Sanit Boonmachai stated that the current increase in tourists travelling to the Island of Koh Larn is a good sign that tourism is steadily flowing back into the region, also stating the need for both local and national governments to focus on maritime safety in 2010.

Deputy Mayor Ronkid Ekasing, Pattaya Security Maintenance Board chairman Mr. Sanit Boonmachai, Pattaya Tourism and Sport Board chairman Rattanachai Sutthidachanai and a representative from the Department of Water and Maritime Transportation joined in welcoming Mr. Saram to the region. Mr. Saram visited Bali Hai Pier to inspect and observe the safety and logistical systems in place on the Eastern Seaboard especially in the tourism hub of Pattaya.
Before visiting the Bali Hai Pier Mr. Saram had previously visited the Laem Chabang Port to discuss transportation in and out of the region. He emphasised the importance for all maritime transport companies and staff to realise and comply with countries maritime laws and take note of the “Marine, Air and Land Transportation Safety Measures,” program to ensure that 2010 is the year for transport safety in Thailand.
