The 2 top teams also set a new Thai Premier League’s attendance record with 16,608 fans turning up to watch the Super Sunday match .
Chonburi had thrilled the away section of the 15,000-strong crowd when Jetsadakorn Hemdang put the Sharks ahead after just four minutes.
That forced Muang Thong to launch an all-out attack and Teerathep Winothai came close to an equaliser.
However, it was Thai national striker Teerasil Dangda who restored parity when he fired home a quality strike in the last minute of the first half.
The 30-minute delay followed after problems with the crowd and the second half remained scoreless despite good chances from Chonburi’s Kone Mohamed and Pipob On-mo.
Chonburi, who went into the game looking to bounce back from their 2-0 AFC Cup quarter-final second-leg defeat to Binh Duong, remain one point behind Muang Thong who took their tally to the season to 55 points with three matches left to play.
It is still a two horse race at the top of the Thai Premier League 2009 with both Muang Thong United and Chonburi in a close fight for the crown this year.
