AT 4:30 pm Nongprue city mayor, Mr. Mind Chainit, presided over the opening ceremony of the OTOP (one tumbol one product) village, on an 8 rai expanded area of the floating market which is located on Sukhumvit Road a few km south of Pattaya on the way to Sattahip. Accompanying him were Pattaya?s deputy mayor, Mr. Weerawat Kahkai, and other local officials.
The new village will be a showcase for both traditional and modern Thai agriculture and culture. As an example, visitors will be able to see for themselves the process of rice planting and the transplanting of rice seedlings, an experience not usually associated with Pattaya.
The manager of the Floating Market, Mr. Manus Meepong, disclosed that the market had been a major success, with its focus on conservational tourism. The market, which is constructed from teak, covers an area of 62 rai, and incorporates a large number of shops and vendors.
