A police team consisting of Superintendent Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, a Banglamung Hospital doctor and Sawang Boriboon Rescue responding to a report of suicide went to investigate at 6am. Arriving at the incident on the road outside the 16-storey, Long Beach Garden Resort and Spa, Soi Wong-Amat, the team discovered the dead body of Mr. Alexander Bykov (52), from Russia, wearing only black swimming trunks.
He had an open wound on his hip, skull injuries and was effectively crushed. Written on his left arm, were his name, his room number (9006) and a tour company name. His wrist watch, which was broken, had fallen nearby.
Police then went up to his room on the 9th floor and found a metal chair placed on the balcony. Police also found some white powder in a plastic tube, resembling cocaine, and 2 strips of sexual enhancement pills in his shirt pocket, which they kept as evidence. The condition of the room was normal and there was no sign of fighting.
Mr. Kosol Tonkambai (38), the hotel cashier, told police that Mr. Bykov had checked into the hotel through a tour company on May 11, and he was due to check out on June 7. Mr.Kosol said that he had earlier been alarmed to hear the sound of a heavy object falling and hitting the ground. He then immediately informed security to have a look and found Mr. Bykov lying dead outside.
Police assumed that Mr. Bykov could have taken drugs and possibly being overly concerned about something had decided to commit suicide by leaping off the building. After inspecting the area, they don’t suspect murder. However, police will send his body for autopsy in order to clarify matters and to see if there is any chemical residue in his body. The Russian Embassy will be informed accordingly.
